Action to be taken if the word limit is exceeded

Where a submission exceeds the stated word limit by more than 10%, a penalty of up to 5 percentage points may be applied to the final grade. In severe cases, markers may cease reading beyond the allowable limit if the excess materially affects clarity, structure, or fairness. The word count excludes references, appendices, tables, and figures unless otherwise specified.

Assessment Question:

You are tasked with designing and presenting a business intelligence solution using an industry-  specific dataset. Your objective is to analyse and visualize key performance indicators (KPIs) using Tableau or Power BI, and to present a compelling, data-driven report aligned with a relevant

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) .

Your submission should include:

•    A fully functional, interactive dashboard that displays meaningful business insights using appropriate filters, charts, and story elements.

•    A written analytical report (2,100 words ±10%) that includes:

o A clear definition of the business problem and context

o Details of the dataset, including data cleaning/preparation

o Descriptive analytics and insight generation

o Strategic recommendations aligned with the chosen SDG

o Reflections on ethical use and impact of BI

The quality of both your visual communication and your written analysis will be evaluated against the ASBS rubric standards.

2.  ASSESSMENT RUBRIC/ CRITERIA

This assessment is supported by a rubric designed in line with the ASBS Rubric Standard (May 2025) and uses the official ASBS Rubrics Template. The rubric has been developed to align with the Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)and has been reviewed by the Second Checker and External Examiner where appropriate.

The rubric assesses the following criteria for the Business Intelligence Dashboard & Report (60% weighting):

Quality of the visualisation and user interactivity (e.g., use of filters, tooltips, navigation, and presentation flow).

Analytical Insight

Depth and relevance of descriptive analytics, insight generation, and connection to business/sustainability goals.

Data Handling & Preparation

Evidence of data cleaning, transformation, and transparency of processes.

SDG & Sustainability Alignment

Clarity and depth in aligning the analysis with a chosen UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

Written Report & Structure

Clarity of writing, academic tone, logical structure, referencing, and integration of visuals and narrative.

Visual Communication

Effectiveness of the dashboard and report in communicating key insights to stakeholders.

All criteria are graded using the ASBS grade bands (A1–F) and descriptive level descriptors to ensure fairness, transparency, and consistency in marking.

Students can access the rubric on Moodle alongside the full Assessment Brief and can use it to guide their work and self-assess prior to submission.

Rubric – BI Dashboard & Report (60%)

This rubric is designed according to the ASBS Rubric Standard to support transparent, consistent assessment.

3. FEEDBACK METHOD

For this assessment, individual written feedback will be provided via Moodle, using the structured ASBS marking rubric. This feedback will address each assessment criterion and include specific comments on strengths and areas for improvement.

In addition:

1.    General class-level feedback and a grade distribution profile will be posted on Moodle after marking is complete.

2.    Students are encouraged to attend office hours or book 1:1 feedback sessions for further clarification or discussion of their feedback.

3.    Formative feedback opportunities will be available during tutorials and workshops throughout the course, including draft reviews and peer discussions.

4. ASSESSMENT WEIGHTING

This assessment carries the highest weighting (60%) because it evaluates students' ability to integrate conceptual understanding with applied skills. It reflects the course’s core aim: enabling students to deliver data-driven insights through BI tools like Tableau. It assesses end-to-end analytical thinking — from data preparation to stakeholder-facing recommendations — which is central to business intelligence practice.
