ASSIGNMENT - 1
You are a Lead Analyst!
• Your boss heads an auto-leasing company for business clients.
• You are given the task of analysing the “Automobiles” data (available under Assignments), and present your findings and insights that can be shared with potential clients.
• Prepare a PowerPoint slide-deck (not more than 12 slides) with visualizations from this data to share your insights – Be creative and professional!
• The task is open-ended – As a lead analyst, you have to decide how to analyze the data and what to include in your presentation. However, your visualizations must incorporate the following, and minimize clutter.
• At least three instances of each of the following chart types – Bar chart, Line chart, Scatter plot.
(additionally, you could include other chart types based on your preference)
• Principles of Gestalt Psychology, and visualization best practices.
• Submit your work on Brightspace as Tableau packaged workbook (.twbx) and PowerPoint slides by 11:59pm on Sunday, Sep’ 28.
• You can save your work as Tableau packaged workbook via File->Save as->Tableau packaged workbook (.twbx).
• You can export your Tableau visualizations to PowerPoint via File->Export as PowerPoint. You must refine the PowerPoint slides after this step to make it professional and communicate your analyses/insights well to the audience!
• You will be penalized if you do not submit the files in the correct format.
You are an Airport Operations Manager!
• You are managing a team of analysts who have analyzed air traffic data and created a number of visualizations in “Air_Traffic.twbx” file
(available under Assignments).
• You have to present these to your boss, and you would like to polish the visualizations for presentation to your boss.
• Improve each of the visualizations in “Air_Traffic.twbx” so as to make it look more professional. You should not change the main information displayed in the visualizations, but you can modify the way it is visualized including chart type, various ways of using a chart type, axes, titles, text, filters, etc.
• The task is open-ended – You have to decide what modification(s) to do in each visualization so as to:
• Incorporate principles of Gestalt Psychology, and visualization best practices.
• Minimize clutter.
• Improve the overall appearance of the visualization (including the main chart and all peripherals such as axes, titles, text, filters, etc.) for a better audience experience.
• Prepare a PowerPoint slide-deck with your improved visualizations (one for each original visualization) and explain the improvements you have made alongside each visualization.
• Submit this work on Brightspace as Tableau packaged workbook (.twbx) and PowerPoint slides by 11:59pm on Sunday, Sep’ 28.
• You can save your work as Tableau packaged workbook via File->Save as->Tableau packaged workbook (.twbx).
• You can export your Tableau visualizations to PowerPoint via File->Export as PowerPoint. You must refine the PowerPoint slides after this step to make it professional and communicate your modifications (as described above) clearly!
