Semester 2, 2023-2024 Academic Year

Assignment 01: Presentation

Date of submission: 17:00 am, 19th April 2024

Submission method: Submit PPT slides and recordings via the LM

Length: 8 minutes

Weighting: 30% of the module grade

Present a project design on a topic concerning language learning and teaching, for example, some individual characteristics that can influence language learning outcomes, or what teaching methods can motivate students’ participation in class activities in online teaching, etc. You should video record your presentation and submit it to the Learning Mall before the deadline. In the video, your face and slides should be clearly visible. If the presenter is not visible in the video, this may affect the grading of your presentation. Before the presentation starts, you should present your student ID card for identification purposes. It is required that you present the topic you will undertake in your essay. In the presentation, you should outline the background against which the topic is chosen, justify the choice, state the aim(s) of the essay, describe the methods to be adopted, and anticipate any difficulty to be encountered and what kind of support is needed. Please keep in mind that the overall duration must remain within 8 minutes. The following suggests the presentation structure you should follow:

· Title (1 slide)

· Introduction (1-2 slides)

· Literature review (1-2 slides)

· Research design (2-4 slides)

· References (1 slide)

Important note: If your project will involve human subjects (for example, conducting interviews or surveys with human subjects), you will need to obtain ethics clearance from the University before you launch it. Please refer to the university policy on Ethics for more specifics or contact [email protected] for additional guidance and support. For this module, the module leader is going to apply for group clearance. If you believe your project requires ethics clearance, please send your study plan (including research aims, research instruments such as survey questions or interview questions, and the target research group characteristics) to the module leader before Week 7. You should also state the implications of including human subjects and what measures have been taken to ensure that adequate protections are in place.
