Description of Assessment Task and Purpose:
Scenario
You are employed by as a Network Security Analyst by an airline. The airline has been
criticised for high flight prices on the back of a £4m profit in the last financial year. The
business has recently been under attack from threat actors who have initiated DoS attacks.
These attacks have brought the business to a halt with customers not able to access their
accounts or book flights. The business has not invested in network security and there is only
one firewall between the main servers and the Internet.
Your line manager has asked you to undertake two tasks:
1. Provide create a tool that will identify when a DoS attack is happening. This tool must
be created in Python.
2. Provide a narrative of no more than 1500 words that explains:
a. how the tool operates, including installation and operation details;
b. why it is an important tool for the business;
c. the impact of a DoS attack;
d. and how it will help to protect the business.

Assessment Submission Instructions:
Please submit the following:
1. Narrative that explains:
a. how the tool operates, including installation and operation details;
b. why it is an important tool for the business;
c. the impact of a DoS attack;
d. and how it will help to protect the business.
Your narrative should not exceed 1500 words.
NOTE: All Assessment Briefings should be made available prior to the
commencement of the module, clearly signposted on the module Blackboard site
as well as included in any module handbook or briefing document.

• A file that contains the narrative
• The tool you have created.
You do not need to submit any files containing the code.
Do not submit files to the supporting documents on Blackboard as these will not be read.
Please submit the narrative element to Blackboard using this format:
Font size 11, 1.5 line spacing, 2cm margins, Times New Roman or Arial
Please use Harvard referencing.

Assessment Support Information:
You will need to test this tool to make sure it works. Please make sure that you do this
in a sandboxed environment – a VM such as Virtual Box.
Do not under any circumstances test on a live network.
